Erik Kowarski is a classically trained musician turned sound engineer, having performed in bands covering a wide range of styles, from choral and a cappella singing to orchestral violin; from Celtic, folk and swing to techno and world music. His broad understanding of musical styles and his acute listening skills contribute to his ability as a producer and sound recordist.
Since the late 1970’s Erik has been musical director and producer on many recordings, leading to the natural progression of becoming a sound engineer. In 1996 he established Pocket Universe recording studio, where he records and produces a range of predominantly acoustic artists and bands as well as singer-songwriters using electric/ electronic instruments and MIDI. Pocket Universe was one of the first studios in WA to adopt the Pro Tools recording system, now the industry standard in digital recording. As well as Pro Tools, Erik uses a small selection of high quality microphones and preamps to aid in capturing every detail of the instrument(s) and the performance.
Artists who have recorded at Pocket Universe include world-renowned classical guitarist Alan Banks, powerful vocal duo Doris, acclaimed guitarist Alan Welsh, Irish singers Brendan Woods and Sean Roche, a cappella singing group The Ballpoint Penguins and many other local artists and small groups.
